Mathieu Wolniewicz (ma mi) explores the conditions of apparition of the figure within devices composed of engraved and painted reflective surfaces.
Perception arises from the interaction between material inscription, optical reflection, and conditions of viewing.
The images remain unstable, oscillating between appearance and disappearance depending on light and the viewer’s movement.
Under certain conditions, this instability extends into space in the form of a luminous double.
The whole constitutes a regime of fluctuating apparition of the image, between surface and projection.

Mathieu Wolniewicz (ma mi) explore les modalités d’apparition de la figure dans des dispositifs de surfaces réfléchissantes gravées et peintes.
La perception y résulte de l’interaction entre inscription matérielle, reflet optique et conditions de vision.
Les images demeurent instables, oscillant entre apparition et disparition selon la lumière et le déplacement du regardeur.
Dans certaines conditions, cette instabilité se prolonge dans l’espace sous forme de double lumineux.
L’ensemble constitue un régime d’apparition fluctuante de l’image, entre surface et projection.
